Darrin "Dirt" Cherewayko, the Artisan of Dirt Rocks. He ventures to the wilds of the Kamloops region of interior British Columbia, Canada, to hand mine exotic stones. Using ethical and source sparing methods, each rock is carefully removed from the earth by hand. Using creative lapidary, each stone is transformed to highlight its natural brilliance as one of a kind art gemstone jewelry pieces.
Darrin Cherewayko, a musician from Manitoba moved to BC to become a rock musician. He never imagined years later he'd become a Rock Hound. His hobby trekking through Kamloops, BC looking for rocks, soon became his passion and a new way to express his art beyond his music.
After years learning and perfecting his skills hand mining exotic stones in BC, he expanded to creative lapidary transforming raw stones into pieces of art. Over many years, his knowledge and skill has made him an expert in this field.
Darrin travels throughout British Columbia sharing his passion and jewelry creations at festivals and art exhibits. He shares his knowledge as an educator and public speaker and helps others get involved.
When he's not speaking about exotic stones of British Columbia, he sometimes shows and sells his jewelry creations at festivals, events and conferences. Darrin personally digs, cuts, prepares and transforms the stones he collects into one of a kind art jewelry.
Recently, Darrin has begun creating new natural art pieces. Using wood and other materials, his artisan skills capture the beauty of nature in items we use daily to bring a bit of the outdoors inside.
Darrin also continues to express his art and talent as a musician. For over 40 years, he has danced to the beat of his own drum set and pretty much every percussion instrument you can imagine. As a sought after musician, Darrin performs with some Canadian artists, Indigenous groups, tribute bands and more. If he's not hitting the trails looking for rocks, he's hitting his drums playing with some amazing Canadian musicians.
